Gudbjörg Vilhjálmsdóttir, PhD, is a professor in career guidance and counseling at the University of Iceland. She has been training counselors and been a program director at the university since 1991. Previous to that, she worked as a counselor at the University College of Education. Vilhjálmsdóttir’s research area has been within career development theory with an emphasis on career constructivism and Bourdieu’s habitus theory. She has participated in an international research project on career adaptability and developed a measure for career adaptability in Iceland. Her most recent research project is on the use of narrative theory in guidance research. One of her ongoing research interests has been the evaluation of careers education and counseling.
